*English Meaning*: *Guidance*
Some people also write it as "Hidaya". Don't confuse it with *Hadaya* هدايا which means *"gifts"* in Arabic.
Here we are talking about *Hidaya / Hadaya = Guidance* in Islam.
*Hadaya in Islam - Detailed Meaning*
*Hadaya* is one of the biggest blessings and mercy from Allah. It means being shown, led, and helped to walk on the *"Straight Path"* - the path of truth, Islam, and obedience to Allah.
Allah Himself explains it in the Quran. There are 2 types of Hadaya:
*1. Hadaya al-Irshad - Guidance of Direction*
This is when Allah shows everyone the right path through:
- The *Quran*: "This is the Book about which there is no doubt, a guidance for those conscious of Allah" — *Quran 2:2*
- The *Prophets*: "And indeed, you [O Muhammad] guide to a straight path" — *Quran 42:52*
- Signs in nature, intellect, and conscience
This type of guidance is for all of humanity. Allah gives the invitation to everyone.
*2. Hadaya at-Tawfeeq - Guidance of Success*
This is when Allah puts love for truth in your heart and gives you the ability to actually follow it.
Allah says: *"Whom Allah guides, he is the guided"* — *Quran 18:17*
And: *"You do not guide whom you like, but Allah guides whom He wills"* — *Quran 28:56*[rightly]
This is why we ask for it 17 times a day in Salah:
*"Ihdinas Siratal Mustaqeem"* — _Guide us to the straight path_ — *Quran 1:6*
*Is Hadaya a Gift from Allah?*
*Yes, 100%*. Hadaya is the greatest gift from Allah.
Why? Because without Allah's guidance, a person can have wealth, knowledge, and status but still be lost. With Hadaya, even a poor person is rich because he knows his purpose.

"And thus We have revealed to you a Spirit by Our command. You did not know what the Book was, or faith was, but We made it a light by which We guide whom We will of Our servants" — *Quran 42:52*[what]
*From Hadith:*
The Prophet ﷺ said: _"Every child is born upon fitrah [the natural inclination to Islam]. Then his parents make him a Jew, or a Christian, or a Magian."_ — *Sahih Bukhari 1358, Sahih Muslim 2658*
This shows that the basic guidance is from Allah, but keeping it and increasing it is also by His will.
Scholars say: *"Hadaya is a gift, but you have to open the gift with dua, seeking knowledge, and good deeds."*

1. *Ask for it in Dua* - Especially in Surah Fatiha
2. *Read and understand Quran* - "A guidance for mankind" — *Quran 2:185*
3. *Follow the Sunnah* of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ
