Introduction When people talk about the role of women in Islam, the conversation often gets mixed with culture, politics, and stereotypes. But to understand it properly, we have to go back to the original sources: the Quran and the teachings of Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, along with 1400 years of Islamic history. Islam came in 7th century Arabia, a time and place where women had very limited rights. Female infanticide was practiced, women could not inherit, and they had almost no legal standing. The message of Islam changed that foundation completely. It gave women a distinct spiritual identity, legal rights, and social responsibilities that were revolutionary for that era and remain relevant today. This article explains the role of women in Islam from four angles: spiritual, educational, familial, and social.
