Conquest of Alexandria

Muqaqas remained committed to peace, so now the competition was between the Romans and the Muslims.

The Roman troops had reached Alexandria, and after the victory of Fastat, Hazrat Umar bin Alas rested for a few days.

And after that, he asked the court of the Caliphate for permission to attack Alexandria.

After approval from there on 21 Hijri, Hazrat Amr bin Alas turned to Alexandria.

The Egyptians did not participate in the war willingly. He could not refuse because he was the emperor of Rome.

And Muqoqs had secretly told Hazrat Amr that he would not fight against you, so you would not harm the Qubits.

6 months passed but Alexandria was not conquered, so Hazrat Umar wrote a letter of displeasure.

And said to attack immediately. Hazrat Umar bin Alaas made a passionate speech, and made Hazrat Ubaida bin Samit the commander of the army, and attacked Alexandria with such force that
Alexandria was conquered in a single attack and at that time, Hazrat Umaroo conveyed the news of the conquest to Hazrat Umar
.
Then all the prisoners were given the option to either become Muslims or accept to pay jizya, so many prisoners accepted Islam.

And quite a lot of them remained faithful to their religion.
